Sean Gallagher serves as President & Chief Legal Officer of Cognosante Ventures, supporting Cognosante’s many investment activities, including the management of its interests in a portfolio of high-growth, early-stage companies. Prior to Cognosante Ventures, Sean led Cognosante’s legal, contracts and compliance functions as Chief Legal Officer for six years.
Before joining Cognosante, Sean was vice president and deputy general counsel at Stanley Inc., a NYSE-listed provider of information technology services and solutions to U.S. defense, intelligence, and civilian Federal agencies. Earlier in his career, Sean practiced as a corporate finance and securities attorney in Washington, D.C., at the law firms of Hogan & Hartson LLP (now Hogan Lovells LLP) and Sullivan & Cromwell LLP. While in private practice, Sean represented companies and their boards of directors in general securities and corporate governance issues, as well as representing companies and investment banking firms in connection with public and private securities offerings.
Sean received a Bachelor of Arts from Washington State University and a Juris Doctor from the Syracuse University College of Law. He is licensed to practice law in New York, Massachusetts, Virginia (corporate counsel), and Washington, D.C. Sean also serves as an arbitrator on the Attorney/Client Arbitration Board of the D.C. Bar Association and is a member of the bar of the United States Supreme Court.
